Vloggers Drone Buyers Guide

We have listed some of our top features to look out for and the criteria we have used to narrow down the best drones for vlogging

Video Quality

Video quality is an essential these days with the standard video quality on YouTube being 1080p HD. We have included many drones with capable of doing 4K Ultra HD for beautiful video footage and 1080p HD for High definition Footage. This includes stabilisation features of the drone for overall better video quality.

For New Vloggers who want to experiment with drone footage, we have also included cheaper 720p Drones.

Fly Time

Fly time is a critical aspect of a drone, you want a drone with good battery life that can record enough footage when you take it out.

Every Drone we have reviewed has 15 minutes to a maximum of 30 Minutes of fly time before it needs to be recharged.

This is enough to record footage of your adventure, capture the landscapes for B roll footage and more. You also have the option of carrying extra batteries or charging to extend battery life.

GPS Assisted Drones

GPS Assisted Drones are a lot easier to use. They can map out an area and fly exactly where you tell them to. They also take off and return home.

Some of the Drones with GPS also include follow me features to follow you and record the footage while you continue on your adventure.

Portability & Usability

Portability is a key aspect for vloggers as you will be using the drone outdoors and adding additional kit to your camera gear. We have advised how easy the drone is to use and how portable in terms of folding, weight and storage.

So you will know exactly how much room you need to bring it out on your vlogging adventures to capture some amazing footage.

Best Drones For Vlogging 2019

1. DJI Phantom 4

  • Video Quality: 4k 60FPS
  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Intelligent Flight Mode
  • Fly Time: 30 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: All Levels

The DJI Phantom 4 is the upgrade to the previous drone and it also comes with a few new and revolutionary features. The DJI Phantom 4 is one of the very best drones that you dream of using for all your vlogging purposes. Unfortunately, the normal Phantom 4 and the Pro version are both really expensive and this might not bode well for those of us strapped to a budget. While the APP might be easy to use by beginners, it is mostly designed for the intermediate to expert vloggers.

Video Quality: The drone still comes with a 12MP camera but it has much better streaming quality and you can find some of your favorite video footage streaming at 60 frames per second when on the 4K resolution.

The CMOS sensor that has been added to the model means that it can actually be in close competition with some of the top GoPro cameras and this will make it much easier for vloggers streaming and capturing all the details

GPS Features: The OcuSync Technology is a great advancement and this will constantly scan for frequencies with the lowest interference. It makes it much easier for you to control the drone. Since it features an assisted flight mode, you won’t need to worry about losing control and the top quality sensors will automatically avoid any obstacles in your way for up to 4.3 Miles.

Portability: Once again, you might be left a little frustrated that the drone cannot really be folded and this makes it harder to transport. The drone is a little bulky but still manages to fit into the averagely sized trunks.

Fly Time: It has a slightly better battery that has been included and this will allow you to fly at around 44 MPH for a massive 28-minutes. Much like the Pro Version, it can also be controlled at a range of 4.3-miles as well, making it possible to scout an entire area.

While the Phantom 4 is one of the top models, DJI has announced the Pro version of this model and this will make it much easier for you as a professional vlogger. Now you have up to 30-minutes of flight time with the same streaming quality at the 4K resolution.

Video Quality: The Hasselblad L1D-20c camera has been equipped with a  20 MP CMOS sensor and this will be more than enough for you to take all of your best video captions. Unfortunately, it does not have the 60 frames per second feature at 4K, but can only record at 30 fps.

GPS Features: One of the best features of this drone is the ability to plan your flight. If you are going on an adventure, you can actually plot the entire flight pattern and this will make it much easier to actually keep it from accidentally bumping into something. Activetrack Technology also includes a 3D view of maps and this will certainly make it easier to maintain accuracy while recording footage.

Portability: Weighing only 907-grams, this drone is really lightweight and it can actually be taken apart or actually folded if you need to transport it from one location to another.

Fly Time: The drone has a maximum speed of around 44 MPH and the battery will last about 31-minutes in the air, making it one of the longest lasting commercially sold drones on the market today.

  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Intelligent Flight Mode
  • Fly Time: 25 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: Intermediate/Pro

The Parrot ANAFI Drone drone is one of the newer models that actually made its appearance in 2018.

Video Quality: The drone comes with a 21MP sensor and it is capable of capturing 4K videos with great quality for the vlogger. It also features numerous different HD modes like 720p and Full HD if you need to save on the storage.

GPS Features: This is one of the downsides is that the drone only relies on two-axis and the app is also really important when it comes to making a few sharp turns. It is worth noting that the “follow me” and “obstacle avoidance” features are all part of in-app purchases that you will need to buy. However, a skilled operator should not have any issues.

Since it weighs a mere 320 grams, Parrot has not added too much to the sensor and navigational control. This means that avoiding obstacle has been left in the hands of the controller. It comes with a state of the art APP that will connect with yo

Portability: Since it weighs a mere 320 grams Numerous carbon fiber elements have been added and this will ensure more durability as you are flying around obstacles. The entire drone can be folded with ease and this also includes the remote, with the setup time being around 3-seconds

Fly Time: The drone comes with an intelligent Li-Po battery and this will enable you to actually fly for around 25-minutes while continuously streaming. According to the manufacturer, it has a rather decent speed and should go up to 35MPH with ease

4. DJI Phantom 3

  • Video Quality: 1080p HD
  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Intelligent Flight Mode
  • Fly Time: 25 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: New/Intermediate

Considered an entry-level drone, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard Quadcopter Drone ready to fly from right out of the box.

Video Quality: The 12MP sensor might not be the best currently on the market today, but will still give you decent imaging, while the GLONASS lenses will help you with around 2.7K of video streaming quality. Additionally, the timelapse feature is perfect for using when you are capturing events and want to save some battery.

GPS Features: A GPS-assisted flight feature means you can fly this drone over wide varieties of terrains and even avoid some of the most common obstacles that could be harmful. It also comes with a 3-axis design and this means that flying the drone will be much easier than the Parrot models.

Portability: One of the downsides to this drone is the bulky appearance. While most drones can actually collapse when you want to travel, this one does not collapse and the landing gear might remain a problem for a while. It also does not allow you to move with the times and your camera cannot be removed for upgrading purposes.

Flight Time: For the flight time, this drone can fly for a decent 25-minutes while it is recording and this is all thanks to the intelligent battery. It will also indicate and notify the controller when the battery is a little low. The range is around 3-miles, meaning you can continuously stream the footage for a significant distance before bringing it back in.

It also includes a decent 8GB SD card that is used for all of your flight experiences and should work to store some of the footage.

5. Skydio R1 Self-Flying 4K Camera Smart Drone

  • Video Quality: Up To 4K
  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Intelligent Flight Mode
  • Fly Time: 25 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: Intemediate/Pro

Have you ever wondered how some of the top vloggers can actually capture all of their own images with so much accuracy? The Skydio R1 Self-Flying 4K Camera Smart Drone is one of those top-quality drones that will actually make it possible to help you capture everything for your blog without additional assistance.

Video Quality: The 4K camera is one of the best features and this drone, giving beautiful ultra high definition footage for a drone. This gives you the ability to capture all of your favorite moments in Ultra HD, letting the drone do all of the work similar to your own assistant. For those of you who love to capture slow mo clips,  the Skydio R1 can also capture in slow-motion in 1080p full HD at 60 frames per second.

GPS Features: NVIDIA Tegra is considered a Supercomputer AI and this is the main system that operates this drone. GLONASS technology has been integrated and since you can easily plot your waypoint, the drone fly without your hands even touching any device. The 360-degree sensors have been added to ensure the drone will avoid common obstacles, making it easier to follow you while you're biking, running, or whatever adventure you choose, it will capture the moment in stunning 4k.

Portability: The drone itself is a little heavier than most other top drones like the Mavic 2. However, 2.2-pounds is still light enough to enable you to carry it along with ease. Unfortunately, the drone does not utilize any foldable technology, which forces you to have a large enough trunk to carry it along. It is worth noting that on a durability scale, all the parts have been protected by rubber to keep them safe when they accidentally hit any potential objects.

Fly Time: The drone has one of the lowest flight times we have seen for a professional drone. However, 16-minutes does seem rather fair when you take into account that it does have a supercomputer onboard. Fortunately, you can purchase additional batteries that will make it easier to keep it flying for the duration of your activities.

Unlike some of the cheaper drones, it will notify you once the batteries are running low. Instead of forcing you to manually command it to come back, the drone will automatically fly back to the starting point. With automated landing, there is no need to worry about making it back in time to assist with the landing.

What We Liked

  • 4K Video Recording and Streaming
  • Slow Motion Ability at 1080p HD
  • Intelligent flight mode with auto-navigation
  • Connects to Apple Watch

What We Didnt Like

  • Very Expensive
  • Flight time is 16 Minutes

6. DJI Spark

  • Video Quality: 1080p HD
  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Intelligent Flight Mode
  • Fly Time: 15 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: New/Intermediate

The DJI Spark can easily be considered the baby brother or the shrunken version of the DJI Mavic and this makes it slightly more affordable and easier to move around as well. Most people also like comparing the size to that of an average can of soda, but it still comes with a couple of impressive features.

As an affordable option, the DJI Spark is great for the intermediate vlogger to take their vlog to the next level. It is actually affordable for a drone, but will still give you some of the top DJI features. It is also worth noting that a 2-axis flight control can be a little tricky for most people with limit experience to keep stable.

Video Quality: The drone comes with a 3-inch sensor that will help deliver stunning 12 MP still images and it can record in 1080p Full HD at a decent 30 frames per second. It includes panoramic and shadow focus mode to bring out the best quality in every potential area that you might find yourself when shooting for the vlog.

GPS Features: Like many of the advanced drones, the DJI Spark also includes some of the common sensors that are needed. With an advanced GPS system that includes intelligent flight mode, users don’t need to constantly control the drone. GLONASS technology will help with satellite communication and keep the drone flying along with the waypoints.

Object avoidance is also quite important and DJI has once again included an infrared camera to the front of the drone. This will help it navigate and sense objects in clustered environments. The downward facing camera is used to record video and will also ensure that the drone can automatically return to base after the flight.

Portability: One of the best features is the portability factor. Yes, the drone does have a decent durability rating, but since it can almost fit in your pocket, you don’t need to worry about the folding feature. It can easily land and be launched from your palm, removing the constant need for finding special landing zones.

Fly Time: The battery will last only around 15-minutes, but you have the option of purchasing a few backups if you feel that will be needed. The drone can record stunning quality video at a range of about 1.2-miles, but you will need to have an excellent connection to make this work. According to the manufacturer, the speed is 50 MPH but might vary slightly depending on the wind and the direction.

  • Great Video Quality - 1080p HD
  • Affordable Drone
  • 14MP Camera
  • Affordable

7. Holy Stone HSV700

  • Video Quality: 1080p HD
  • GPS: Follow Me & Return Home Modes
  • Fly Time: 20 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: New/Intermediate

As one of the older brands, Holy Stone has been one of the top designers of drones in the industry. The Holy Stone HSV700 is no different and it is considered one of their top drones, bringing some of the latest features to the table that you would generally expect to find in brands like DJI and the Skydio drones.

Video Quality: It features a 110-degree field of view and can actually shoot your videos in 1080p Full HD at 30 frames per second. However, these videos can have a little shakiness with no real stabilisation technology added. However, the upside is that brackets are included for users looking to mount their GoPro Cameras if needed, which have built in EIS.

GPS Features: To make life a little easier, the drone does include an advanced remote control; that allows for mounting of your mobile device. After satellite connection the GPS –assisted flight mode makes it easier to control the drone, especially when you need to avoid a couple of obstacles. Instead of having someone assist you for flying the drone, the “follow-me” feature control the speed and allow the drone to actually capture footage without you controlling the flight pattern.

Portability: Since it is one of the lightest models, it can easily be carried around from one location to the next, making it portable for outdoor adventures. However, foldable technology has not been utilised and this could be problematic for light packers. You also need to be really careful with the propeller to ensure they don’t take any damage.

Fly Time: Powered by a 2800mAh Lithium Polymer battery, the drone can fly for around 20-minutes using all of the features. It will take around 7-hours to charge, but you can find additional batteries to help you with longer flight times. Thanks to the top quality remote, users have a maximum range of 3280-feet to work with and the drone will return automatically as the batteries are dying down.

What We Liked

  • 20 Minute Battery Life
  • Intelligent Flight modes
  • 1080P HD Video Resolution
  • Affordable

What We Didnt Like

  • Lacks foldability & portability
  • No Protection Guards

8. parrot bebop 2

  • Video Quality: 1080p HD
  • GPS: Not GPS Based
  • Fly Time: 25 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: Intermediate

In the modern era, we all find ourselves strapped too tight budgets and this does make it harder to find a good drone to start with as a beginner. However, the Parrot Bebop 2 is one of the best ways to help you get started.

If you are a newcomer to the world of vlogging this will be an excellent option for you to get started. It includes a couple of top quality features that beginners might need, but certainly lacks some of the advanced features for streaming a good quality vlog. One of the upsides is the price and this is considered as one of the cheapest models available now.

Video Quality: The 14 MP camera is state of the art and can capture better images than most modern mobile cameras. The videos are generally streamed in 1080p HD, but you won’t have the ability to stream in 4K like most of the newer versions.

GPS Features: With no obstacles or interference, the range of the drone is around 1.4-miles, but since it is not GPS based like most of the modern options, you will need to keep an eye on the drone. You don’t have the luxury of plotting the map, but with someone controlling the drone, you can still capture some of your favorite outdoor moments.

Portability: One of the upsides is the size of the drone and since it is a little smaller than many of the others, you can easily carry it around and move it from one location to another. It cannot be folded, but it should fit into your trunk with ease. With cockpit glasses, you can see exactly what the drone is seeing and this will definitely make the control a little easier.

Fly Time: The drone is capable of flying for around 25-minutes of a single battery charge and the 1.4-mile range will ensure that you can easily control it over a longer distance. It includes a full HD 3 axis design making it easier to control it bad weather conditions.

What We Liked

  • Great Stabilisation Ability
  • 25 Minute Flight Time
  • 14MP Camera
  • Affordable

What We Didnt Like

  • Lacks 4K Camera
  • 1.4 Mile Range
  • No GPS Map Plotting

9. DJI Tello

  • Video Quality: 720P @ 30FPS
  • GPS: No GPS, Return Home Mode
  • Fly Time: 13 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: New Vloggers

The DJI Tello is one of the easiest and simplest drones for anyone to use. If you want to fly it, you simply need to have it charged and it will be ready, with no assembly required. The Tello app is also quite simple and easy to install without any glitches on the IOS or Android versions, we definitely like it for beginners.

The Tello is a great drone to get started with especially if youre a new or intermediate vlogger getting into filming footage with a drone for your vlogs.

Video Quality: The drone starts by giving you a decent 5 MP sensor and it can take stellar still images. It has a field of view of around 82.6-degrees and this can record videos in 720p HD at around 30 frames per second. Electronic Images Stabilization Technology has been integrated and will automatically kick in to limit the blur.

GPS Features: Unfortunately, DJI has not put too much effort into the GPS. It is manually operated on your device with the APP and might take some practice. It does include an altitude hold feature to keep it in place and this will make it possible to capture some of your best shot. According to DJI, the drone can also be flipped in 8 directions if you want to have a few stunts.

On the plus side, the drone can actually be launched from your hands and the APP makes it easy to launch the drone effectively. Simply touch the lift-off button and the drone will start launching. If you are done, the drone should automatically return and start landing.

Portability: Much like the DJI Spark, the Tello is one of the smaller drones we have on this list. It comes in at around 1.54-pounds, but with the small dimensions, one might even be able to fit it inside the pocket. However, it is not recommended as the drone cannot be folded and you don’t want to damage some of the propellers.

Fly Time: Should you need a lot of time to capture your video, this might not be the best drone. It can only fly for around 13-minutes on one set of batteries. However, you have the option of buying a few additional batteries extra. The range is also quite limited to your Bluetooth connection, making it hard to actually scout ahead.

What We Liked

  • Small and portable design
  • 720p @ 30FPS
  • App for iOS and Android
  • Automated Landing and Liftoff

What We Didnt Like

  • Lacks Intelligent fly mode

10. Holy Stone HS100G

  • Video Quality: 1080p HD
  • GPS: GPS Assisted, Follow Me Modes
  • Fly Time: 15 Minutes
  • Vlogger Level: New Vloggers

Last but certainly not least, we have the Holy Stone HS100G drone. Much like the previous model, it also fits well into the mid-range market, making it easier for beginners and intermediates to start with their blogs, before actually taking it to the next level. It is affordable and packed with a load of top features to work with:

Video Quality: With a massive 120-degree field of view, this drone is perfect for capturing panoramic scenes. It comes with a 1080p HD camera that will record videos at 30-frames per second, but once again, you might find the lack of stabilization a little frustrating with unsteady images. However, it might be better to actually mount your GoPro camera.

GPS Features: One thing we have seen with the Holy Stone drones is their ability to use GPS technology and that is no different here. You might not have the same "follow-me" mode included, but GPS assisted flying does make it much easier. Additionally, it will automatically return home and the drone only needs you to press one button for liftoff to commence.

Portability: Being small and lightweight will definitely be an asset to this drone. It might not really be pocket size, but you can fit is inside your bag quite easily, However, you need to be careful as it does not include any real protection or rubber coating that will keep the drone propellers from being damaged. As for the weight, you can expect to carry around 1.73-pounds with this drone.

Fly Time: Powered by a 2500mAh Lithium-polymer battery, you might find the flight time to be a little disappointing. It takes around 5-hours to charge and will only give you 12-15 minutes of flight time. However, most of the deals do actually include an additional battery. We should also mention that altitude hold feature that makes it possible for the drone to maintain stability for your images or video.

What We Liked

  • Small and compact design
  • Affordable
  • GPS Assisted flying
  • Option to mount GoPro
  • 1080p HD Camera

What We Didnt Like
