3. 3DIO FS Microphone - Best ASMR Mic (Binaural)

The one you’ve probably been waiting for, the 3DIO Free Space. Probably one of the ASMR communities "Most Wanted" in terms of microphone since it simulates the ears.

Lets jump in with this micrphone and see what all the fuss is about!

This is a binaural mic and has two microphones, one in the right and left. The 3DIO is made for ASMR with the silicon ears so the YouTuber can accurate pinpoint the sound to your ears.

Build Quality
The 3DIO is a sturdy device with a good build quality with a very interesting design of silicone ears imitating that of human ears makes it easily identifiable in ASMR Videos, which is one of our favorite things about this microphone.

Sound
The sound quality is really impressive, its immersive, there is depth, High sensitivity and low noise, just not as low as the NT1-A. ASMR Sessions with the 3Dio are very distinctive due to the 360 degree sound.

The sounds produced in an ASMR session are very unique and deliver a more realistic experience because the microphone would record sound the same way an ear would, due to the binaural nature of the microphone and the replication of the ear.

Tingles. - All over! Have a listen for yourself

Ease of Use

The 3Dio has to be plugged into a camera or an audio interface such as the H4N above, unlike the USB option above. This is quite easy to setup though by simply connecting the jack to the camera/H4N and selecting the mic to be used on the H4N

ASMR Microphone Buyers Guide

Your ASMR Style - Polar Pattern & Sound

Sound is vitally important. Each ASMR contains its own style. These styles can be achieved with different types of mics such as Binaural, Omnidirectional and Cardiod.

Binuaral Microphones, which consist of two micrphones side by side separated by a space. Binuaral Mics are used to create the effect of whispering, tapping or touching in the left and right ears. An example of a microhphone like this is the 3Dio.The 3DIO also has 360 Degree sound and replicates the ear, so you can pinpoint where sounds are coming from around the ear.

Omnidirectional Microphones can pick up sounds from all directions like the Blue Yeti. Blue yeti can do a variety of patterns such as Stereo, Cardioid, Omni-Directional and bidirectional sound. Allowing you to try out a multitude, if youre looking to define your ASMR Style.

Cardioid Microphones pick up sounds directly from the source, which are great for whispers, talking, mouthing ASMR type videos such as the NT1-A.

To achieve the binaural affect with an Cardioid microphone you will need Two XLR Microphones such as the Rode NT1A. Two Blue Yetis unfortunately don’t work like this due to its USB connectivity.

Self Noise
Self Noise is how much noise a microphone produces when it is recording. This is especially important for ASMR since it focuses on the sounds themselves. You dont want to be hearing a buzz or hiss of a microphone, although it can be edited out to an extent. We found the Røde NT1-A was the quietest microphone and the Zoom 4HN the loudest when it is connected to a power source.

We hope you found this guide useful, please let us know your thoughts and experience with these ASMR Microphones!
